‘Liquid Sites’ 2022

The installation displays a time-based live sculpture combining raw clay and metal objects underneath a collection of water filled cotton bags slowly dripping and transforming the sculpture to a new form throughout the week long exhibition.

The site-specific installation explored material geographies and extraction practices within the history of C-mine Arts and cultural institute (once the coal mine) Genk, Belgium. During the residency period, an excursion was carried out to investigate the identity of what’s beneath the soil post extraction era of the coal mine site. The land refill and restructure brings new soil identity, and metal remains of the old machinery utilised during the extraction period.

Inspired by the filtration process of the wild clay, the sculpture evokes a meditative scenery sound carried by the interaction of different material forms, shapes and colours.
